May 26 release: onboarding polish, cleaner chat, smarter host analytics

This is the kind of release we love shipping. Nothing splashy, but you’ll feel the difference everywhere you tap. Onboarding got broken into smaller steps. The chat list lost the empty-thread clutter. And hosts finally got the analytics rebuild a lot of you asked for after running events this spring.

For daters

• Onboarding, one question at a time. Instead of one long form, you’ll now answer a single question per screen — name, gender, date of birth, hometown, occupation. Smaller bites, less friction, far fewer drop-offs from new daters.
• Email sign-ups collect first and last name properly. If you sign up with email instead of Apple or Google, we now ask for both so your name shows up the way you’d expect at check-in.
• Sign in with Apple keeps your real name. When you share your name with Apple, we now persist it to your profile too — so hosts and matches see the same person who walked in.
• Chat list hides empty conversations. No more scrolling past threads that never started. Only conversations with real messages show up.
• Sign-out is now a confirm sheet. No more accidentally tapping the wrong row in settings and losing your session.
• Report from anywhere. We pulled the reporting flow into a single shared sheet, so the same clear flow shows up wherever you tap Report.

For hosts

• Analytics screen, rebuilt. The post-event view now leads with the numbers that matter most — turnout, match count, average picks, and the gender ratio that actually showed up versus what registered.
• Export the night as a PDF. A clean one-page summary of your event for your records, your venue partner, or your spreadsheet. Tap the export button on the analytics tab.
• Issues view redesigned. Anything you need to act on — flagged daters, reports, mismatched gender counts — is now organized so you can clear it in a single pass.
• Same chat-list and sign-out polish as daters. Empty conversations hidden, sign-out confirmed.

Small touches everywhere

• Pull-to-refresh heart now sits in a clean white chip (instead of floating on the gradient background).
• Toast cards dropped the muddy gradient ring for a flatter, more readable design.
• Display names capped at 20 characters — readable on every screen, no more truncation surprises.

Why we built this

Two pieces of feedback drove this release. First-time daters consistently told us the original onboarding form felt like “a lot all at once” — and our drop-off numbers backed them up. Breaking it into one question per screen turned what felt like a wall into a series of taps.

Hosts kept asking us for a way to save what happened at their event — not just see it. The PDF export is for the host who wants to share results with a co-host, attach a recap to a venue partnership, or just keep records of the season. The analytics rebuild was overdue.
